Getting some paint on a miniature from the Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader era.

Painted miniature
Inquisitor with Plasma Gun

I used this model to experiment with new paints to varying degrees of success. Inquisitors don't have a uniform. I won't need to replicate anything I've done on other models.

The Inquisition

40K inherited inquisitors from Laserburn.

Inquisitors are special agents of the Imperium; free-roaming troubleshooters bound by no laws or authority. Every Inquisitor is empowered to investigate any possible or potential threat to the future of humanity, whether that threat comes in the form of political aggression, administrative inefficiency or genetic deviation. There are no bounds to the Inquisitor's field of operation: alien plots, mutation, corruption, crime and all incompetence all come under his jurisdiction.

-Rick Priestly, Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader (1987)

Miniatures

To my knowledge, these are the Inquisitors Citadel made in the 1980s.

Check out some painted examples on the Rogue Heresy blog. Angry Griffin's Oldhammer site has some details on the background of Clouseau and Augustus who was named by the Citadel Combat Cards game of the same period. Their paint jobs are works of art.

I believe that most of these are Bob Naismith sculpts. The Terminators are by Jes Goodwin.

Rogue Trader Rules

The rules for rolling up an Inquisitor in the rulebook generated a tonne of equipment and had a high chance of generating psychic powers resulting in a high points cost. Try for yourself! Granted, miniatures were not expected to lug everything around with them all the time.

The charts did not include a Plasma Gun, nor any other standard weapons. Not a huge problem in a game where a games master can alter the rules as they see fit.

Book of the Astronomican

There were a pair of Inquisitor characters in The Book of the Astronomicon supplement, Inquisitor Tharg and Psi-Inquisitor Thor Malkin, who look like they could have been generated using the Rogue Trader rules.

Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness

Inquisitors (and Daemonhunters) were in the Ordo Malleus list at the back of one of the Chaos books. Either could generate 0-1 standard weapons for 3pts a roll which included the Plasma Gun.

40K 2nd Edition

Inquisitors were in the Imperial Agents list in Codex Army Lists and had a lot of latitude when it came to selecting equipment and psychic powers.
