Recreating the paint sets of my youth.

Having decided to try painting miniatures again I needed to buy paints. My old paints did not survive the test of time.

HMG made paints for Citadel in the '80s. I looked at the HMG Coat d'Arms paints which are available from Essex Miniatures ↗ . Citadel was never particularly consistent in naming paints. I struggled to match names to the old Warhammer 40,000 sets and some essentials are missing. How am I supposed to paint a Blood Angel without Terracotta?

Several companies make ranges made to appeal to returning painters. Ultimately I decided to go with WarColours' ↗ nostalgia '88 ↗ paints. Their range uses the old paint names, and they sell them in familiar sets.

WarColours paints no longer come in the '80s style pots. They are not a 100% match to the paints from the era. This is not a problem for me. Other criteria won out.
