An unnamed bio-construct from the time of the Advanced Space Crusade board game.

Art by Stephen Tappin, I think

This design is based on a rough John Blanche concept sketch that is printed in White Dwarf 131. The text notes are illegible. It resulted in a Kev Adams miniature . A better picture on angrygriffin.net shows the tab with "SPIDER TYRANID" marked on it.

It isn't clear if this is any of the bio-constructs described in the Advanced Space Crusade rulebook.

Candidate 1: Shroud-Spinner

If the Tyranids want to store a captive so that he can be eaten, genetically shredded or used as a breeder host at a later date, then a special bio-construct called a Shroud-Spinner weaves an anaethetising cocoon round the victim to keep him alive and fresh. This is the reason why troops assaulting a Tyranid ship sometimes find whole chambers of these cocooned victims.

-Jervis Johnson, Advanced Space Crusade rulebook

Shroud-Spinners had an off-stage presence in the Advanced Space Crusade board game. They were responsible for cocooning the rescuable strangers and the Tyranid mind slaves.

Candidate 2: Coffin-Crawlers

Coffin-Crawlers consume fresh corpses and grow in bulk until they are ready to return to the Norn-Queen, carrying their swollen bodies back to feed the Norn-Queen itself.

-Jervis Johnson, Advanced Space Crusade rulebook

The illustration above is next to this description, but another voracious-looking bio-construct also appears on the page.

Fan Sculpts

I am not tempted to build my own like I did with Big Squig 1.

A couple of fan sculpts come close to Kev Adams' realisation of the art. You can find one in the L72 metal catalogue and another in the Hybrid Miniatures range.
