Painting a set of five ex-Citadel miniatures.

Painted miniatures
Captain Repentance, Sergeant Shame, Corporal Contrition, Private Penitance, & Lord Revelation

Modelling & Painting

I mounted the squad on 25mm plastic bases for height and stability.

Corporal Contrition

This model is hunched over and prone to falling on its face. Like its donor model it has a nub on its back for a Space Marine backpack.

I created a green stuff ↗ hillock on the base to angle it back a bit. It gives the model a more stable centre of gravity, and it doesn't hurt that it looks more imposing. I snipped the nub off the back with pliers & glued on a backpack ↗ from Checkpoint Miniatures. Like on the other models I used PVA ↗ & aquarium sand to mask the divide between metal and plastic bases.

Paint Scheme

The painted examples I've seen lean on the Judge Dredd ↗ Mega-City One uniforms. I've taken inspiration from Vatican City cardinal cassocks with a little bit of Sov Block thrown in. I wanted to remain faithful to the colours of the Adeptus Terra.

History

Wargames Foundry released these miniatures for Bring Out Your Lead ↗ 2015. They come with solid bases instead of the original tabs which reputedly had a Citadel copyright message on them. Three of them are resculpts of other Citadel miniatures or at least share the same dolly.

The Bryan Ansell Collection

Bryan Ansell ↗ kept a bunch of stuff when he sold Games Workshop in 1991, including some rights. You can see more of Ansell's collection on these blogs:

Collecting Citadel Miniatures ↗ details the donor miniatures used to cast the squad. Realm of Chaos 80s ↗ has a picture of the squad painted by Marcus Ansell. PM Painting ↗ has another take on them.

Wargames Foundry

Wargames Foundry ↗ was another of Ansell's miniatures companies, founded in 1983 under a different name. The squad is in their Ex Citadel range ↗ .
